$301 million in property taxes collected so far by Trelawny municipality
The Trelawny Municipal Corporation is to step up its efforts to go after property taxes arising from a shortfall in intake.
It was disclosed at today’s monthly meeting of the municipal corporation that the local authority has so far collected $301 million in property taxes for the financial year, which ends on March 31.
This represents a shortfall of $83 million.
Mayor of Falmouth Collen Gager stated that more will be done to collect the taxes.
"We have a target to collect. I am confident that when our mobile tax collection unit goes out into the districts we will take care of the shortfall and pass the target set," Gager said.
“Come Wednesday next week the district of Rio Bueno will be our first stop followed by Lowe River. We have six weeks to the end of March and I am expressing confidence that we will not only reach the target but surpass it."
