Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) General Secretary Dr Horace Chang has asserted that the party will once again sweep all five seats in St James in the upcoming general election, which is constitutionally due by September.

Speaking at a St James Central workers’ meeting at Montego Bay High School on Sunday, Chang, who is also the Member of Parliament for Northwest St James, highlighted the significant investments made by the Andrew Holness administration in the parish and expressed the party’s commitment to continuing its development efforts for residents.

He cited several major projects, including the US$400 million investment in Sangster International Airport, the development of new road networks in informal settlements, the multi-billion-dollar Montego Bay Bypass project—set to open later this year—and new housing developments in areas such as Barrett Hall.

According to Chang, the government is prioritizing investments in projects that generate employment opportunities for Jamaicans, emphasizing that the goal is to bring prosperity to all citizens, not just the “big man.”

He also noted that crime is declining to levels not seen in a long time, which is crucial for creating an environment that attracts even more investment.

In the 2020 general election, the JLP swept all five constituencies in St James.

Chang and Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett, two senior stalwarts of the party in the west, secured victories in Northwest and East Central St James, respectively.

Meanwhile, Homer Davis broke the People’s National Party’s long-standing hold on St James South, Heroy Clarke reclaimed St James Central, and Marlene Malahoo Forte won St James West Central.
