Build a Better Jamaica Fund raised $459 million, over 12,000 families helped
A special fund that was set up as part of the national response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl has raised and disbursed $459 million.
Through the Build a Better Jamaica Fund, approximately 12,685 families have received emergency relief supplies to help their recovery from the ravages caused by the Category 4 storm.
The fund was established by the National Commercial Bank (NCB) Foundation.
The fund got donations from individuals and entities in Jamaica and around the world, along with matching funds from the NCB Group.
Details of the impact of the Build a Better Jamaica Fund were disclosed during a ceremony at the S Hotel in St Andrew on Thursday, one year after Beryl made landfall in Jamaica on July 3 last year.
Perrin Gayle, chief executive officer of the NCB Foundation, disclosed that the fund benefited 1,191 farmers and fisher folks and rebuilt 795 roofs.
He disclosed, too, that 1,821 homes and community buildings were restored and that water was restored for over 3,000 residents via two generators that were purchased from the fund.
