St Catherine inDrive operator accused of rape denied bail
A St Catherine-based rideshare driver accused of the alleged rape of a female passenger was denied bail and further remanded when he appeared before the parish court on Friday.
The man, who is charged with rape and other sexual offences, was ordered to return to court on July 29.
Acting Senior Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle heard the matter.
The court heard that on June 24, the driver, who operated under inDrive, picked up the passenger in Portmore, St Catherine.
They were en route to Spanish Town when he allegedly diverted from the planned route.
It is alleged that he touched the woman and sexually assaulted her.
The woman made a report to the police's Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse, and a probe was launched.
He was subsequently arrested and, following a question-and-answer session, charged.
