A man was fatally shot by the police during an alleged confrontation in Old Harbour, St Catherine, this morning.

He has not yet been identified.

The police say a loaded shotgun was seized.

Reports are that about 2:15 a.m., a police team was conducting an operation on Gordon Wood Lane in Old Harbour when they saw a man and attempted to accost him.

The man, reportedly armed with a shotgun, challenged the police, who took evasive action and opened fire, hitting him.

He was assisted to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has been notified about the incident.
