Police on alert as nomination day activities get under way in St Catherine
Head of the St Catherine North police division, Senior Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, says there is full deployment of police personnel throughout the division to monitor nomination day activities.
Nicholson says police personnel have been fully briefed on their roles and responsibilities during today's exercise.
"We are in a state of readiness and since 7:45 a.m., we have deployed personnel to man all the centres within the division and upon visiting the members are fully alert, aware and ready," Nicholson said.
When The Gleaner visited the St Catherine West Central constituency this morning, police personnel were observed on duty.
The People's National Party's candidate, Locksley Francis, was duly nominated this morning, paying his fee with $5,000 notes.
Francis says he intends to do his very best in the constituency held by the Jamaica Labour Party's Dr Christopher Tufton.
Tufton is scheduled to be nominated at 1 p.m.
