With the help of the Jamaica Eye surveillance system, a 26-year-old Portmore, St Catherine man, who was on the run for over a year for the alleged rape of a woman at gunpoint, whom he then abandoned along a roadway, has been arrested and charged.

Raheem Tello, a customer service representative, was charged on Wednesday with rape, assault at common law, forcible abduction, possession of prohibited weapon, and using a firearm to commit a felony.

He is booked to appear before the St Catherine Parish Court on Tuesday, September 02.

Reports from the Portmore police are that between 7:50 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 21, Tello was transporting a woman in his car along Port Henderson Road when upon reaching a section of the road, he stopped the vehicle and requested sexual favours of her.

The woman refused, and Tello allegedly brandished a firearm, which he pointed at her, before having sexual intercourse with her against her will.

Following the ordeal, he left her along a section of the road.

A report was subsequently made to the police.

The man was apprehended by the lawmen on Wednesday, August 20, along the Spanish Town Bypass in St Catherine after being identified by the Jamaica Eye surveillance system.

He was charged on Wednesday, August 27, following an identification parade.
