NWC delivers aid to care home in St James
The National Water Commission’s Eastern (NWC’s) maintenance team donated essential supplies to the Ultimate Care Centre in Catherine Hall, St James, redirecting funds from their year-end celebration to support the home after Hurricane Melissa.
The NWC maintenance team provided a wide range of much-needed items, including water, cooking oil, adult diapers, tissue, bleach, sheet sets, brooms, mops, plungers, curtain sets, bathroom mats, lotion, and other essential supplies to help restore daily operations and comfort.
Speaking during the handover, Ann Bolt, acting community relations manager (eastern), highlighted the dedication of the team, stating, “The men and women of the maintenance team are the heartbeat of the NWC; they are integral to facility operations.” She further explained that the donation reflected the team’s commitment to service beyond their daily responsibilities, noting, “They opted to forgo their Christmas staff social and decided to reallocate the funds to assist the care centre in recovering from the losses of the hurricane.”
The donation came at a critical moment, as the facility had suffered extensive flooding during the hurricane, with nearly six feet of water submerging the downstairs area. While the quick actions of caregivers ensured all residents were safely relocated upstairs, significant damage was done to furniture, equipment, and essential supplies.
“I am overwhelmed and grateful for how far your team came and for choosing this home to donate to,” said Lorna Bogle, owner of the care centre. She added, “The things we received today are for the home, but I also plan to share them with members of the community, as they were all affected and in need of help too.”
The donation brought visible relief and encouragement to residents, caregivers, and the wider community, serving as a powerful reminder that compassion and unity can make a meaningful difference in times of crisis.
