Under 17,000 still without power, JPS targeting full Melissa restoration by April
The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) has indicated that it continues to reduce the number of Jamaicans without electricity following Hurricane Melissa, with the figure now below 17,000.
JPS President and CEO Hugh Grant said the affected customers are in Westmoreland, St Elizabeth, St James and Hanover.
Some 9,341 customers in Westmoreland are still without electricity, while 6,370 remain without power in St Elizabeth.
In St James, 780 customers are still without power, while 253 are affected in Hanover.
Grant said 673,000 of 690,000 customers have been restored since the passage of Melissa last October.
He added that JPS is targeting the restoration of power to 7,000 customers by the end of February, with the remaining customers expected to be reconnected between March and April.
“We see you, we hear you, we care about you, and we want to assure each and every one of you that the work will not stop until every light is back on,” he said.
Energy Minister Daryl Vaz said the Government stands with Jamaicans who are still without electricity and is committed to ensuring full restoration.
