The Bellevue Hospital is reporting that a patient died on the compound on Monday.

The Kingston-based mental health facility, in a media release today, said an internal review has commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The hospital is cooperating with the relevant authorities,” the hospital said.

“Out of respect for patient confidentiality and the privacy of the family, no further details will be provided at this time,” Bellevue added.

The institution said the patient’s family has been notified and extended its deepest condolences during this difficult time.

Bellevue further stated that it recognises the seriousness of the matter and emphasised that the safety and well-being of patients remain central to its mandate.

“Bellevue Hospital remains committed to responsible governance and the ongoing delivery of mental health services in Jamaica,” it said.
