Two cops found guilty of bribery; sentencing set for April 9
Two policemen found guilty of soliciting and accepting bribery are to be sentenced in the St Catherine Parish Court on April 9.
Constables Marlon Hamilton and Romaine Boothe were convicted at a hearing on Tuesday.
Their bail of $650,000 each was extended pending sentencing.
The court heard that on August 13, 2023, the two officers were on duty along the Nelson Mandela Highway in St Catherine when they observed a vehicle being towed.
The complainant was approached and allegedly asked to pay $3,000, which was handed over.
The matter was later reported to the Inspectorate of Professional Standards Oversight Bureau of the police force. Following an investigation, the policemen were charged.
The cops were assigned to the St Catherine South police.
