NWC dismantles illegal water connection network in Clarendon
The National Water Commission (NWC) is reporting that it has dealt a blow to a clandestine network of illegal water connections in Clarendon.
The commission says that deep in the dense bushes of Palmetto Pen and Cross Pen, its Revenue Recovery Team, in collaboration with the Jamaica Constabulary Force, took decisive action through Operation Clean Sweep.
The utility company says the operation led to the removal of 260 ft of 1-inch and 300 ft of 3/4-inch polyethylene flex pipes, as well as 20 lengths of PVC pipe.
The NWC says these unauthorised connections had been plaguing the Palmetto Pen network, causing distribution and service delivery issues for customers in the area.
“Illegal connections are nothing new, but we are taking a firm stance against them,” the commission said.
“This not only affects our revenue but also impacts the quality of service we can provide to our legitimate customers. We are committed to tackling this issue head-on.”
The NWC is urging residents to come forward and regularise their connections.
