West Indies knocked out of T20 World Cup after loss to India

The West Indies cricket team have failed to advance to the semi-finals of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup after suffering a five-wicket defeat to India on Sunday.
Chasing 196, India reached 199-5 with four balls remaining to secure their place and end West Indies’ campaign in the Super Eights.
India were powered by a match-winning 97 not out from 50 balls by Sanju Samson, who struck 12 fours and four sixes at a strike rate of 194.
Samson sealed the win in dramatic fashion, launching Romario Shepherd for six to level the scores before chipping the next ball over mid-on for the winning boundary. The knock earned him Player of the Match honours.
Earlier, West Indies posted 195-4, in what became the highest match aggregate (394 runs) between the two sides in a men’s T20 World Cup fixture.
Rovman Powell also etched his name in the record books, moving past Nicholas Pooran to become West Indies’ leading six-hitter in T20 internationals with his 150th maximum.
Shamar Joseph led the West Indies bowling with 2-42, while Jason Holder returned 2-38. For India, Bumrah returned figures of 2-36.
The defeat ended West Indies’ campaign and extended their wait for a T20 World Cup semi-final appearance, last achieved in 2016, when they won.
India, meanwhile, remain on course to defend their title on home soil.
The match was played at the Eden Gardens stadium in India.
