Police ID man killed in St Catherine mob attack over alleged attempted rape
Police in the St. Catherine North Division have identified the man who died after being attacked by a mob last week, following allegations that he attempted to rape a woman.
He has been named as Javori 'Jeff Dunbar, a 25-year-old labourer from Barewood District, Montego Bay, St James. Dunbar was identified on March 4 by a relative at the Linstead Police Station.
According to police reports, around 8 p.m. on February 28, Dunbar allegedly assaulted a woman in the community and attempted to rape her. The woman managed to escape and shouted “rape,” prompting community members to come to her aid, at which point Dunbar reportedly fled the scene.
The matter was reported to police, who conducted a search but were unable to locate him.
At approximately 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, Dunbar was spotted in the community and was attacked by a group of people. He was reportedly chopped and struck with objects.
He was taken to the Linstead Community Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
