Haitians guilty of illegal entry into Jamaica
Three Haitians who were captured on a fishing beach after they illegally entered Jamaica pleaded guilty in the St Catherine Parish Court on Friday.
The accused are Radelairie Desir, Emanae Michael and Eliza Syllable all of Port-a-Prince, Haiti.
They answered to the charge of illegal entry.
Acting Senior Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle sentenced them to time served.
"They have been in custody for 48 days, therefore, their sentences are already served," Nelson-Gayle said.
A representative from the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA) told the court that arrangements would be made by Monday for the timely departure of the illegal aliens.
The Haitians were represented by attorneys-at-Law Fabian Campbell and Abina Morris.
On February 28, police personnel were on patrol along the Old Harbour Bay Fishing Beach in St Catherine when the team encountered the two men and the woman inside a shed.
Initial checks by the police revealed that they were Haitians who had illegally entered Jamaica.
PICA was contacted and after an investigation the three were charged.
