The diplomatic Corp last Soiree
The Diplomatic Corps of Jamaica's annual end-of-year cocktail event was hosted by the Embassy of the Dominican Republic, and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps Ambassador Dr Jose Tomas Ares recently.
The event saw heads of missions and government ministers coming together for one last hurrah for 2016. The night was made with great wine, great food and great company.
There was recently a changing of the guard in the Consular Corps. The former president of the World Federation of Consuls, former dean of the Consular Corps and Consul of Turkey, Arnold Foote, introduced the Corps to its new dean - Michael Subratie, honorary consul of Bangladesh.
HIGH PRAISES
In his remarks, Foote praised the work being done by the Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador Ares, and congratulated Subratie, saying: "He is a very knowledgeable, talented and dedicated."
Subratie said he was looking forward to greater collaboration with the Diplomatic Corps. He said the start of this cooperation would be a formal banquet honouring Former Prime Minister Edward Seaga for his dedication to nation building.
This event will held on January 13, 2017, at the Spanish Court Hotel in St Andrew. Proceeds from this banquet will be in aid of the Bustamante Hospital For Children.
Ambassador Ares was also honoured for his role in increasing the partnership between both corps, and for the support he has given to the World Federation of Consuls in the Dominican Republic, as well as his work internationally especially in Switzerland and Panama.
