The SAJ brings Christmas cheer to the elderly in Greenwich Town
One hundred senior citizens, including the disabled and shut-ins in the Greenwich Town community in Kingston, received special Christmas packages containing groceries, courtesy of the Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ).
Volunteers from the SAJ's administrative and port worker staff handed out the gifts during a ceremony at the Holy Name Catholic Church in that community, in what has become a longstanding tradition for the association.
"The Shipping Association of Jamaica has been supporting the Greenwich Town community for many years through various outreach programmes, including our sponsorship of the Marcus Garvey Basic School. This treat is symbolic of the SAJ's continued commitment to the community. The staff and management of the association see this gesture as a way of ensuring that the most needy in the community have just a little more in their cupboards during the festive season," said communications and member services manager Janice Budd.
