WESTERN BUREAU:

Robert Swaby wanted a trip to Paris, France, but he was thrown a surprise party right in his ?backyard?, by his common-law wife, Kim Pierce.

Pierce, who temporarily resides in Florida, spent all of last Wednesday preparing their business place in Catherine Hall, Montego Bay, for a function tagged a baby shower, while Swaby was left to ponder whether or not he would get a quiet dinner date or an evening watching a movie.

Eventually, it was revealed to the Montego Bay businessman, who owns and operates A1-Towing and Recovery, that a birthday dinner was the option, and Secrets Resorts was the place of choice. First, he had to pick up his stepson, Jamal Laing, at his offices, en route to the resort.

By the time he got to his offices, what looked like a baby shower was in full swing, until he walked through the white drapes and heard the words, ?Surprise?!

Mixed emotions of joy, excitement, and gratitude showed that he was caught off guard, as the 40-year-old birthday boy was greeted by more than 50 of his friends who paid tribute to a man they described as a great friend, a confidante, and a good husband.

?You are a good man and a great father to our sons. I would want to spend my life with no one else but you,? were the endearing words Pierce expressed as she spoke glowingly about the man she has been business partner with for several years.

The food was lavish, with the best tasting conch soup, barbecued pork, curried goat and conch, chicken and pasta, within a setting made beautiful by Lorraine and Shawn Headley. It was a great night celebrating a man that all who were present loved.
