On the 15th day of the 10th month of October in the year of our Lord, two thousand and fourteen, invited guests travelled back in time to the 19th Century to have a ball in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Gleaner-sponsored Restaurant Week.

The lavish ballroom at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel welcomed belles and gents to a masquerade ball. Dim lights, a black carpet, and sponsors' stations outfitted to represent the era, were the perfect backdrop to the evening. The room was abuzz with conversation as wine glasses clicked, and some guests enjoyed the entertainment from AshÈ and The Company Dance Theatre; this ball was nothing short of spectacular.

The sound of the trumpet signalled the entrance of the lords and ladies representing the sponsors. And last but not least was the RW Lady and Lord - SSCO's Lady Stephanie Scott and The Gleaner's managing director, Lord Christopher Barnes, respectively.

They took their seats on their royal thrones before addressing the court. According to Lady Scott, over 70 restaurants across the island will display their culinary skills for the 10th staging of Restaurant Week.

special outreach

Lord Barnes noted that The Gleaner, along with the other sponsors, had joined forces for a special outreach to benefit Missionaries of the Poor. The 'Step up to the Plate' initiative was launched with $180,000, an ode to The Gleaner's 180th anniversary, and others were encouraged to follow suit.

Eve and Copperwood provided delectable culinary offerings for the night, while Yellow Pages satisfied with their sweet treats. Select brands kept the wine flowing for the night, and CPJ treated lovers of liqueur to exotic mixed libations.

Other sponsors include: First Global Bank, Flow, RJR Communications Group, Select Brands, GasPro, Orbit and Tetley.
