Digicel pays for mammograms

Thirty persons at the Jamaica Cancer Society had their mammograms paid for courtesy of telecommunications leader Digicel. The handover took place at the Jamaica Cancer Society's headquarters at Lady Musgrave Road on Friday, October 24, as part of Digicel's support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Head of government sales at Digicel Business, Michelle Watkis-Robinson, who is also a survivor of breast cancer, was extremely pleased to be able to make the donation on behalf of Digicel.

Delighted at the gesture, Yulit Gordon, executive director of the Jamaica Cancer Society, said, "As the incidences of cancer continue to increase among us, it becomes more urgent for us to increase the level of awareness around the disease. We are very grateful for this support from Digicel. The cost to access drugs to treat breast cancer is exorbitant and we have quite a number of women who come to us for financial aid in order to access treatment. We cannot raise enough funds to do all that we need to do, so we need the intervention of corporate organisations like Digicel and we commend them for doing this."
