10 things about honorary UTech graduates Glen Christian, Fraser-Pryce

Businessman and philanthropist Glen Christian and decorated sprint athlete Shelly-Ann  Fraser Pryce  are to be conferred with honorary degrees by the University of Technology next week.

Christian,  the  CEO  and  chairman  of  Cari-Med and Fraser-Pryce a double Olympic  Gold medallist will be conferred on November 3 at the University’s graduation at the National Arena, in Kingston.

Here are 10 things you should know about Glen Christian and Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce:

Glen Christian:
1. Began his journey in the pharmaceutical industry in 1971 as a general sales representative with H. D. Hopwood Limited.
2. In  1986 established his own pharmaceutical distribution company, Cari-Med  Limited, with  three employees, today the workforce is 400 employees.
3. Christian is also  the  CEO  and chairman of Kirk Distributors and Federated Pharmaceutical Limited
4. Established the Union Gardens  Foundation in 2014 to forge public-private sector partnerships to construct  state of the art early childhood facilities in low-income communities across Jamaica.
5. A member of the Boards of the Chase Fund and the  
6. A graduate of the Mico University College
7. A member of the Bethel Baptist Church
8. Twice  served  on  the  Board  of  Graduate  Studies, Research and Entrepreneurship at the University of Technology.
9. Awarded Order of Distinction and the  Order of Jamaica
10. Married to Marva Christian with two sons and two daughters.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce
1. A member of the Order of Distinction
2. At 21 years old became the first Caribbean woman to win 100m gold at the Olympics running 10.78 seconds.
3. Successfully  defended  her 100m title at London 2012, becoming the third woman to win two consecutive 100 m events at the Olympics.
4. The  only  female to be crowned world champion over 100m three times (2009, 2013, 2015).
5. The only female athlete to hold both titles on two separate occasions (the  2008  Olympic  and  2009 world titles, and the 2012 Olympic and 2013 World titles).
6. Fondly known as the ‘Pocket Rocket’
7. Female Athlete of the Year four times: 2009, 2012, 2013 and 2015.
8. 2013 IAAF Athlete of the Year.
