Manchester U-15 round-up
Starz Academy, Greenvale and the pair of Belair and Comfort are the respective early zone leaders of the Manchester Football Association's Under-15 league.
Starz lead Zone One with maximum six points from their two games played while Greenvale lead the charge in Zone Two with six points mined from three games. In Zone Three, there's a two-way tie between Belair and Comfort on seven points, with both having played three games.
In results from Zone One this week, Starz defeated 360 Degrees Academy 2-0 ,courtesy of strikes by Mario Webley and Orlando Roberts, while Mile Gully outscored Hillstars 3-1.
In Zone Two, leaders Greenvale suffered a 2-0 loss to Villa United. Villa got both their goals from Shaqueille Campbell. In the other game played, May Day and Alligator Pond drew 0-0.
In Zone Three, Belair knocked over Hope Village 3-1 while Comfort had a 2-1 win over DC Strikers.
Generation hot in Top Notch Summer Football League
The tenth staging of the Top Notch Summer Football League kicked off last Sunday at the Sunset football field in the Knockpatrick area of central Manchester. For the 10th straight year, the sitting councillor for the area, Clayton Francis, was delighted to kick off the competition sponsored by his company and Alpart Jamaica.
The competition got under way with the newly crowned Manchester Division One champions Central United going up again Providence United. The champions were too good for Providence and emerged 4-1 victors. In the feature match of the day, Generation United dismantled Knockpatrick United 9-0, thanks to a four-timer by Alden'Messi"'Rattray.
In other games played, Madrid United and Pro Hardware drew 1-1 and United All Stars edged Albion United 1-0.
The competition continues tomorrow with four games.
Starz, Greenvale in Pat Anderson U-17 finals
Starz Academy and Greenvale Academy will contest the 2018 final of the Moorland Development-sponsored Pat Anderson Under-17 Championship in Manchester tomorrow at Brooks Park. Match time 3:30 p.m.
Both were successful in their respective semi-final encounters against Downs and Villa United. Starz won 2-1 while Greenvale were more convincing in a 4-1 display.
In a spirited contest, Jermaine Muirhead of Starz found the net first before Jason Dyer of Downs replied as the score read 1-1 at the half-time interval. The game remained locked at 1-1 until the 90th minute when Shemar Bartley scored to give Starz a 2-1 victory.
In their game against Villa, Greenvale Academy overcame the early ejection of a player in the 6th minute to earn a 3-1 lead at half-time. Javel Coley scored two goals.
Juici Senior, Junior Netball leagues
A new season of the Juici Patties-sponsored Clarendon Senior and Junior Netball Leagues began last week Sunday at the Mineral Heights roundabout sports complex.
In the Junior League, Blackwoods blasted Harmonds 28-3, May Day A outscored May Day B team 23-20, Hayes All Stars got the better of Portland Cottage 35-19 while Central High A defeated Toll Gate 26-11.
In the senior division, newly crowned Jamalco Open league champions Jamalco and Denbigh High A battled to a 61-61 draw. In another nail-biting high scoring encounter, Team R of Mandeville edged Hayes Supreme 42-41.
New Holland are St Elizabeth FA Major League champions
New Holland are the 2018 St Elizabeth FA Major League champions following a 2-1 win over Goshen in the final played at the St Elizabeth Technical High playing field last weekend.
New Holland put one hand on the trophy from the first half when Kadeem Stone netted two goals in the 38th and 44th minutes for a 2-0 lead. Rushane Grant pulled a goal back for Goshen in the 55th minute.
In the semifinals Goshen shocked Tafari Lions FC 2-0 for a 3-0 aggregate win while the champions had a tough 2-1 win over Middle Quarters Police Youth Club.
