I'm not done yet - Ambusley
Dwayne Ambusley, player-assistant coach of Montego Bay United (MBU), ran out for a little cameo that added some valuable experience in the last half-hour of their 1-1 draw with Mt Pleasant FA in the Red Stripe Premier League's Monday Night game at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
Ambusley, who told The Gleaner last season that he would retire at the end of that campaign, said that he changed his mind because he believes the team could do well with his experience in tough games, where they need someone to hold things together.
"It was just a matter of evaluating the league and seeing that they might need help in certain games like this, where there is a need for some experience. So I put in a week training to come out, give my team 25 minutes and successfully, I went in and hold it," said Ambusley.
"To be honest, I always keep fit. I always tell myself 'You have to be fit and ready for whenever the call comes because it's better you're prepared and opportunity never comes, than it presents itself and you're not ready. ' I let the football decide when it's time and not the people," he added.
"It's just the whole aspect of one taking care of his body, to be honest. I can't say I'm being perfect. I need to cut down on the few beers that I'm drinking. For the most part, I still think they (senior players) have a long way to go."
Whilse concerned about the current fitness level of the team, Ambusley believes that they will only get better as the season goes on, with the senior players all working overtime to get back to full fitness.
"This is the third game of the season, we have 30 more games to go. A lot of people wrote us off before the season start. Some now say it's not that bad. I know we can be better, getting some senior players back, people like John Barrett, Dino Williams etc so we can have a more potent attack," said Ambusley.
"We are unified as a unit and is just looking forward to having a nice season. We have a very, very young team as you can see so we just have to work with them as we are trying to build camaraderie.," he added.
