We need to top the zone - Reynolds
Despite their 1-1 draw with Frome Technical High School, which saw defending champions Rusea's High School dropping points for the first time in the 2018 ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup, coach Vassell Reynolds is still hoping that they can finish as the number-one seed for the second round.
"The aim is to top the zone. If we go through as the second-ranked team, we just have to accept it and take things from there," said Reynolds.
"Most definitely, we want to go through as number-one seed. However, once we win our next game, it should probably take us there, with the fact that we would have gone into the competition with an extra five points being the defending champions. But let's see..." he added.
Reynolds said Saturday's game gave them a clear indication where they stand in terms of performance going into the next round of the competition.
"I thought we got a sharp and very good game from Frome as we expected. We earmarked this game as one that should prepare us for the second round, so we liked the manner in which it was very competitive," said Reynolds.
"I thought both teams played very well even though the conditions were not ideal. We don't want to use that as an excuse, but I thought it impacted the quality a bit ... . However, it was an overall good game. Yes, we dropped two points for the first time this season, but we are not disappointed," he added.
Reynolds has identified three areas of weakness in his team's play that will have to be improved going into the business end of the competition.
"This is the fourth goal we conceded, and we are a bit disappointed in the manner in which we did. We didn't have enough coordination with the midfielders in terms of possession, and I think we created opportunities where we could have scored another goal or two. So, we have identified these as part of our weakness and will continue to work on them," said Reynolds.
