DOHA 2019 | Disappointment as Omar McLeod is disqualified in 110m hurdles final
Hopes crashed and hearts wilted this afternoon as Jamaica’s Omar McLeod was disqualified in the men's 110m hurdles final at the IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar.
McLeod, the 2017 world champion, after clipping a few hurdles, was closing down on leader Grant Holloway of the United States before he hit the eighth hurdle.
"It’s the hamstring that threw me off," the 25-year-old told Television Jamaica’s Kayon Raynor shortly after the race.
"I wasn’t able to focus technically," he said.
McLeod failed to recover, running in the lane of Spain's Orlando Ortega, and fell after clearing the last hurdle.
Holloway went on to win the title in 13.10 seconds ahead of neutral athlete Sergey Shubenkov in 13.15 seconds while third place went to Pascal Martinot-Lagarde of France in 13.18 seconds.
Meanwhile, McLeod said, because of the injury, it is highly unlikely that he will be available for the 4x100m relays.
“My hamstring, I think it’s really messed up,” he said.
However, track analyst Hubert Lawrence says the fact that McLeod was able to walk off the field suggests that, with proper treatment, he could be ready for the relay final on Saturday.
