Thomas, DaCosta steal spotlight at the track
ANTHONY THOMAS, the 2018 champion jockey, reeled off four winners yesterday, three for former champion trainer Wayne DaCosta, including United States-bred SIR ALTON in the War Zone Sprint.
Thomas’ four-timer kept him within striking distance of leading rider Dane Nelson, who had notched four wins on Saturday.
Thomas’ four-timer moved him to 36 wins, three behind Nelson, a three-time champion, who came up nil on yesterday’s 10-race card after accounting for the Jamaica Oaks among his four winners on Saturday.
Thomas’ four wins included an exciting finish at five furlongs straight, a short-head victory in the second astride DaCosta’s SERGEANT RECKLESS, outbattling Shane Ellis, aboard PAKMAN.
After chasing down SHE’S A HIT with SIR ALTON, Thomas closed DaCosta’s three-timer with KING ARTHUR in the sixth, finishing clear of MONEY MONSTER at six and a half furlongs.
Thomas closed his tally with another pitch battle in the following race at five furlongs straight, using CAPTUREMYSHIP to chase in-form SUPERBOLT off the lead before scoring by two and a half lengths.
Racing continues at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
