Tomohawk could deliver for DaCosta

WAYNE DaCosta’s colt, TOMOHAWK, despite his lack of pace, could be a real threat to the filly, ANOTHER AFFAIR, should the pace collapse in this afternoon’s nine-furlong and 25-yard Restricted Stakes.

Running at 111lb, TOMOHAWK, who won at the distance three weeks ago, is getting weight from his main rivals and could be a spoiler at what appears to be his favourite distance.

Having clocked many miles over the last three months, ONEOFAKIND and the much-travelled filly, ANOTHER AFFAIR, could fall prey to the light colt.

TOMOHAWK is getting seven pounds from ONEOFAKIND and nine from ANOTHER AFFAIR, making him a dangerous contender for DaCosta, who starts the afternoon approximately $1.5m behind Anthony Nunes atop the trainers’ standings.

GARY Subratie is wasting no time with ANOTHER AFFAIR, sending out the filly for the third time in a little over five weeks, taking a shot at fellow classic-placed, ONEOFAKIND, who she had outfinished by a half-length at seven and a half furlongs with the help of stablemate AWESOME TREASURE, who carried the pace to the furlong pole.

Concerned about ONEOFAKIND not being sharp enough at the start when failing to catch ANOTHER AFFAIR, Anthony Nunes replaced his blinkers with a visor, which made the situation worse on his return last Saturday, slowly into stride and beaten by Wayne DaCosta’s pair, LOOSE BALL and SILENT SEEKER, at six and a half last week Saturday.

Nunes has kept faith with the visor at nine furlongs and 25 yards for the rematch after being separated by a length and a half in the Jamaica Derby, ANOTHER AFFAIR placing third to KING ARTHUR and NIPSTER after being caught a furlong out.

ONEOFAKIND has a three-pound swing in the scale on ANOTHER AFFAIR but lacks the speed to keep his speedier rival honest. AWESOME TREASURE served as chauffeur to ANOTHER AFFAIR and will again set a cracking pace for her stablemate to follow, hoping to pull ONEOFAKIND off the bridle early.
