Nugent injured after exercise fall
In-form apprentice jockey, Oshane Nugent, suffered a blow to his bright start to the horse-racing season, after he was injured during exercise at Caymanas Park yesterday.
Reports say Nugent, who leads the jockey championship by three ahead of Anthony Thomas, with 13 wins, was taking a three-year-old that is yet to race through its paces when the animal ran into the track railing with the jockey aboard, throwing him from the saddle. It is understood that he hit his head during the fall.
The extent of the rider’s injury is not yet known but it is understood that he was bleeding from his nose and an ear after the incident.
He was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital for treatment.
On Sunday, the young rider booted home a double, including MAGICAL MOOD in the ninth race, and IT’S ALL I in the first race.
Nugent will now miss today’s 10-race card at Caymanas Park.
