Portmore United's players celebrate after they scored against Cavalier in their Jamaica Premier League match at the UWI-JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence on Sunday.

Demar Rose's 39th minute goal carried Portmore United to a surprising 1-0 win over defending champions Cavalier in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) at the UWI-JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence on Sunday.

The win was Portmore's first for the season after losing two and drawing one in their first two matches.

In an uneventful first half it was Portmore who broke the deadlock when Rose capitalised on poor defensive play by the champions to squeeze a shot past goalkeeper Vino Barclett at the back post.

Cavalier had a golden opportunity to steal a point at the end but Shaniel Thomas directed his header wide of the target.
