WHEN THE 45th staging of the Gibson McCook Relays get going this Saturday at the National Stadium, not only will there be bragging rights for winning teams, but there will also be cash incentives for the teams on the day.

The biggest prize on the day will see the team with the Best Overall Performance walking away with $150,000, along with the Neville “Teddy” McCook Trophy and a prize from Digicel.

Best Performing High School Boys’ and Girls’ teams will also be rewarded with $100,000 each from Digicel.

Last but not least, there will be a cash prize of $75,000 each, going to teams that break records in championship events.

There will be 15 championship events, nine for boys and six for girls.

In addition, the Gibson McCook Relays announced a partnership with the Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica (PBCJ) to stream the event live on YouTube.

Professor Rainford Wilks, head of the Gibson McCook Relays organising committee, has lauded the PBCJ for its commitment to the event, saying that it would serve to benefit the public as well as the athletes.

“I think this is good for us. I think the more people can see it, the better. It is also a better opportunity for the athletes to showcase their talents,” he said.
