First Rock supports 2022 Sportfishing Challenge
The First Rock Group are the title sponsors for this year’s two-day Sportfishing Challenge – the Fisherman’s Tournament. The event will be staged today and tomorrow in Portland Cottage, Clarendon. The event, which is being staged in partnership with PWD Hunting & Sporting Club, has attracted some of the most enthusiastic, skilled, and experienced fishermen in Jamaica.
Approximately 48 fishermen are expected to compete for the grand cash prize of $300,000, as well as other divisional prizes.
According to Ryan Reid, chairman and CEO of First Rock Group, the group is pleased with the incorporation with PWD because they are fully committed to contributing to the development of their fishing fraternity.
“Our team is happy to be on board for this event. We are thrilled to support the movement of highlighting and influencing active participation in sportfishing. The event is not only about the competition but also a way to show our appreciation for our fishing community and let them know that their efforts and contributions to the environment are not unnoticed. I would say that you cannot enjoy good fishing without taking great care of the environment in which you fish. We hope that this will open many other opportunities for their development,” Reid said.
EXCITED ABOUT PARTNERSHIP
Gregory Mairs, fishing captain of PWD Hunting & Sporting Club, expressed his excitement about the partnership with the sponsors for the upcoming event. He stated that the competition will allow anglers who have put in hours of practice and effort to build their skills to showcase their talent while winning cash prizes.
“I am ecstatic about the reopening of our tournament and am pleased to acknowledge our title sponsor, First Rock Group, and our associate sponsor, Dolla Financial Services, for supporting our initiative. Last year, the pandemic forced us to cancel, and that was disappointing, but this year we are coming out stronger. Our contestants share the same excitement about our reopening and are looking forward to the camaraderie, the excitement, the opportunities, and primarily winning the cash prizes,” he said.
He underscored that the company remains committed to the development of sportfishing in Jamaica and expressed the importance of the tournaments for the development of their community.
“Internationally, the sportfishing has become a serious business and anglers have built careers around the sport, gaining substantial cash prizes. I hope [that] the sport will reach that level in Jamaica soon. Also, while the tournament is a platform to showcase our skilled fishermen, it is also an avenue to boost the development of our fraternity,” he expressed.
