Ramgeet logs Mountaineer double winner after 11 starts
CHESTER, West Virginia (CMC):
VETERAN JAMAICAN jockey Andrew Ramgeet made a notable return to the winner’s circle with a double on Monday’s eight-race card at the Mountaineer Racetrack.
It was the first two wins for Ramgeet in 11 rides in the two-week-old season and puts him in the top 10 of the jockeys’ standings, which is headed by Charle Oliveros, on eight.
Ramgeet scored a commanding 15½-length win aboard the odds-on favourite High Rolling Dude in the US$18,800 seventh race contested over 1,600 metres on the dirt.
He moved High Rolling Dude on pace through the turn and found a racing room nearing the quarter pole before the six-year-old chestnut gelding went clear in the upper stretch and poured it on late to finish in one minute, 40.20 seconds.
Ramgeet immediately followed up with a three-and-a-quarter-length win astride the 2-1 bet Grazed My Biscuits in the US$8,300 final race over 900 metres on the dirt.
He got Grazed My Biscuits away alertly and set the pace before drawing the five-year-old grey gelding off along the rail in the upper stretch to clock 52.97 secs.
