Edwin Allen High School’s Bryan Levell is promising a fast time when he clashes with American Jordan Anthony in today’s big 100 metres at the East Coast international Championships which will be held at the Prince George Sports & Learning Complex in Landover, Maryland.

Levell, who has clocked 10.25 seconds this year, told The Gleaner after his final training session at the venue yesterday that he is looking forward to competing against Anthony who is the fastest junior in the world this year with 10.14.

“I am ready for this because this is my first international 100m meet outside of Jamaica,” said Levell.

“I know that it won’t be an easy race but I am just going out there to do my best and hopefully, I can run a very fast time,” he said.

The 17-year-old Anthony said he is expecting a very exciting showdown against Levell.

“I am confident and so I just going to go out there and run fast like I always do and so it should be a great race,” Anthony said.

“I think that the Jamaican is very fast and I am also fast too and so we will see what happens in the race. I am here to run fast and that is what I am going out there to do regardless of who is in the race,” he added.

Another American, Shamarli Whittle, who has a best of 10.35 this season, is also down to compete in the event.

Hydel High School’s Brianna Lyston and her teammate Kerrica Hill are scheduled to clash in the 100m event. Camoy Binger and Mackaeda Lintonn, both of St Jago High, are also down to compete in the event.

Lyston, who won 200m gold at the recent Carifta Games, broke the Class One record for the half-lap event, clocking a blistering 22.53 seconds at the 2022 ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships.

She is fastest Jamaican schoolgirl in the 100m this year with a time of 11.14 ahead of Hill who has run 11.16 this season.

St Jago’s Jahvel Granville and St Elizabeth Technical’s Omar Locke will clash in the 110m hurdles event. They should receive strong competition from the likes Excelsior’s Sharvis Simmons’s and the American Anthony Harris. Hydel’s Aneika McAnnuff is down to contest the 400m alongside Alesia Douglas and Quana Walker, both of St Jago.

The boys’ 400m will feature Delano Kennedy of Edwin Allen alongside Jevaughn Pinnock of St Jago, Gianni Henry of Kingston College, St Elizabeth Technical’s Rajawn Davis and American Boswick Pattern.

Dejone Raymond of St Elizabeth will be aiming for another personal-best mark when he competes in the high jump event. Raymond won the event at the Penn Relays last week in a new personal-best mark of 2.05m

Other track events down to be contested include the 800m and 400m hurdles. Thowing and jumping events will also be on the programme.
