Gayle title defence set for last-minute decision
Eugene,Oregon:
World Champion long jumper Tajay Gayle says that it will be a "game time" decision on whether he will defend his title at the 2022 World Athletic Championships here in Eugene, Oregon.
Gayle was among the contigent of Jamaican athletes that arrived in Eugene on Monday night for the Games which will start this Friday.
Gayle suffered an injury during the long jump final at the JAAA National Senior and Junior Championships on June 25 and was unable to continue the competition. Gayle only returned to training last Friday.
"Im still unsure about everything. It is still swelling. The compression on the flight (to Eugene) would have swollen up more," Gayle told The Gleaner.
"(Training) was not really training but some strides to get muscle running."
The men's long jump qualification round is scheduled for Friday at 8:00pm Jamaica time which should feature Gayle and National long jump champion, who will be making his senior championship debut.
