Candice McLeod and Stephenie-Ann McPherson advanced to the final of the women’s 400 metres event at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon on Wednesday.

McLeod cemented her place in the final after finishing second in semi-final one in a season’s best 50.05 seconds.

The race was won by The Bahamas’ Shaunae Miller-Uibo in 49.55.

McPherson also advanced after placing third in the second semi-final in 50.56 to secure a non-automatic spot to the final.

The race was won by Fiordaliza Cofil of the Dominican Republic in a personal best 50.14.

Cherokee Young who placed fifth in semi-final three in 51.41 did not advance. The heat was won by Marileidy Paulino of the Dominica Republic in 49.98. Sada Williams of Barbados was second in a season’s best time 50.12 with third going to American Talitha Diggs in 50.84.
