Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls, having aleady booked a spot in the semi-finals of the 2022 Commonwealth Games netball competition, have gone a step further, carving out a potentially easier path to the final by recording a thrilling victory over world number one-ranked Australia.

The 57-55 victory sees the Sunshine Girls top Pool A and set up a date with the second-placed team in Pool B, either England or New Zealand.

The Sunshine Girls, who entered the final quarter, trailing by six points, overpowered the Aussies 17-9 in the final quarter to record a close 57-55 victory, marking the first time they have bested the Australians in Commonwealth Games history.

Captain and Ace shooter Jhaniele Fowler scored 47 goals from 50 attempts, while Shanice Beckford had a perfect 10 goals from 10 attempts.

The efforts of the two were against Australian goal shooter, Gretel Bueta, who had 36 goals from 39 attempts, and Steph Wood, who had 19 from 22.
