CG2022 | Jamaicans move into women's doubles, men's singles badminton quarter-finals
Jamaica’s Tahlia Richardson and Katherine Wynter are through to the quarter-finals of the women’s doubles in badminton at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
The Jamaicans defeated Ghana’s Cindy Tornyenyor and Prospera Nantuo 2-0 with set scores of 21-5, 21-6.
In the men’s singles round of 16, Samuel Ricketts booked his spot in the quarter-final round after easily getting by Maldives’ Ahmed Nibal 2-0 (21-9, 21-6).
In the men's doubles, Joel Angus and Ricketts were knocked out after going down to Australia’s Jack Yu and Tran Hoang Pham 2-0 with scores of 21-11, 21-9.
In the women’s singles round of 16, Richardson’s campaign ended following a 2-0 defeat to Australia’s Hsuan-Yu Wendy Chen. The latter won with identical 21-11 scores in both sets.
In mixed doubles action, the pair of Angus and Katherine Wynter exited in the round 16 following a 2-0 (21-11, 21-7) defeat to England’s pair of Jessica Pugh and Callum Hemming.
