CG2022 | Whyte, Thompson-Herah advance to women's 200m final
Jamaica’s pair of Natalliah Whyte and reigning women’s 100 metres champion at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, Elaine Thompson-Herah, are through to the final of the women’s 200 metres.
Whyte, who competed in semi-finals heat one, managed to clip Gambia's Gina Bass for second place and an automatic spot in the final.
Whyte did 23.09 seconds ahead of Bass’ 23.10 seconds as the race was won by Nigeria’s Favour Ofili who stopped the clock at 22.66 seconds.
In semi-finals heat four, Thompson-Herah booked her spot with the fastest qualifying time, running 22.63 seconds.
Whyte and Thompson-Herah will be joined by Canada’s Natassah Mcdonald, Scotland’s Beth Dobbin, Namibia’s Christine Mboma, Australia’s Ella Connolly, Gambia’s Bass and Nigeria’s Ofili.
The women’s 200 metres final is set for Saturday at 3:44 pm Jamaica time.
