Dolla adds punch to Manning’s football programme
DOLLA FINANCIAL Services Limited has strengthened The Manning’s School’s football programme with the recent handover of a $500,000 cheque. The contribution will be used to purchase essential items such as footballs, football boots, jerseys and nutritional support for the upcoming Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) competitions, primarily the senior daCosta Cup championship.
As the premier holding school in Westmoreland, Dolla observed that the school’s football team commanded a great deal of support and took a significant interest in its development due to the company’s symbolic connection with the parish.
Mario Brown, country manager for Dolla Financial Services, Jamaica, noted the motivation behind the initiative.
“The Dolla family retains a very particular place in their hearts and minds for Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, because many employees have lived there in the past or are still living there today. Apart from that, we see a lot of the team in us (Dolla). The Manning’s football team, like Dolla Financial Services, has a lot of potential,” he expressed.
The financial institution disclosed that the donation to Manning’s is to encourage students to strive for excellence. Additionally, it is an appeal to businesses in Jamaica to offer support in any way they can.
“Life is not about climbing a mountain alone. It is about encouraging others to join us so that everyone can take in the scenery,” Brown said.
DONATION
The company has earned its way into being a beacon for the school, with this donation being one of the many contributions it has made for the betterment of the Sav-based institution. For the past few years, Dolla has taken over and is currently maintaining the bus stop outside The Manning’s School in order to provide students, as well as parents, with a clean, safe area to use public transportation.
Brown further claimed that though the donation is geared towards the growth of The Manning’s School’s football programme, the essence is to contribute to the overall development of sports in Jamaica.
“This is just a stepping stone for us. We believe that sports is one of Jamaica’s artefacts and we must preserve it. Most of our greats have been developed through a school’s sporting programme, so why not start from there,” he offered. “We are looking forward to making more impacts in this area as it is well needed,” he remarked.
The donation to Manning’s is yet another in the company’s history of public philanthropy. In 2022, Dolla donated television sets to the children’s ward of the Spanish Town Hospital and PPE equipment to the University Hospital of the West Indies.
