Confident KC look to topple Ardenne
DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Kingston College (KC) will be aiming for their second straight victory in the Inter-Secondary Schools’ Sports Association (ISSA)/Manning Cup schoolboy football competition in Group A, when they play away to Ardenne High today at 3:30 p.m.
KC will enter today’s contest oozing confidence, having thrashed archrivals Calabar High 5-1 in their opening match on Saturday at Sabina Park.
The Raymond ‘Stampy’ Watson-coached KC should prove too strong for Ardenne High, this after the latter were outclassed 6-0 by St George’s College in their opening match on Saturday.
However, Watson said Ardenne’s home ground is much smaller compared to the Sabina Park playing field and, therefore, they will be taking a more tactical approach.
“The Ardenne field is smaller than Sabina Park field and so we will be aiming to have a lot more possession and have more technical players on the field. Also, we’ll need to be little more patient around the goal,” said Watson.
“We have to make sure that we don’t give them any spaces to play because even though they were beaten six-nil by St George’s College I know that they must have a few quality players in their line-up,” he said.
Watson pointed out that his team is still on a high after last Saturday’s win and, therefore, everyone is ready.
“They are very confident because these players believe in themselves and they are aware of what is at stake this season, and so they want to win every game,” he said.
KC will be depending heavily on Dujuan Richards, Nashordo Gibbs and Omar Walker to lead their charge to victory.
In the group’s other games, St George’s College, fresh off their 6-0 victory over Ardenne, will be seeking win number two when they play away to Meadowbrook High.
Meanwhile, Calabar High will be hoping to rebound from their opening match defeat to KC, when they play away to Waterford High in Portmore.
In Group C, leaders Tivoli Gardens will be aiming for their second straight win when they oppose Edith Dalton James in Duhaney Park, while Bridgeport High will also be seeking their second consecutive victory when they travel to the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex to face Charlie Smith. Haile Selassie High will host Vauxhall High.
Over in Group F, Clan Carthy High will battle Kingston Technical High School at the Alpha Institute, Jose Marti High play away to Campion College and Excelsior High will entertain Cumberland High.
All games are scheduled to kick off at 3:30 p.m. Home teams are named first.
