The Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) has issued an unreserved apology to patrons who faced some discomfort at Saturday’s Manning Cup quarterfinal game between Mona High School and Charlie Smith High School at the Stadium East playfield.

According to reports, patrons were left in the dark at the end of the game and had to make their way from the venue in the dark.

ISSA says the lights at the complex were turned off by Independence Park Ltd, administrators of the National Stadium complex, by accident.

“Immediately after the conclusion of the game, the lights at the complex were turned off. This created a safety concern, which we deeply regret,” read a release from the high school sports governing body.

“Initial reports from Independence Park Limited have indicated that the turning off of the light at that time was unintentional and NOT in keeping with their contractual obligations to ISSA,” the release continued.

ISSA has gone on to assure patrons that there would not be a recurrence of the incident.

“ISSA would like to inform the public that Independence Park Limited has given its full assurance that this will not recur at any future games.”
