Lowly Royal Lakes and Real Mobay clash in JWPL
While Cavalier and Vere United have set the early pace in Group B of the Jamaica Women’s Premier League (JWPL), with two wins from as many games, Royal Lakes and Real Mobay who play today at the Royal Lakes Sports Complex at 3:15 p.m. are still to get off the mark.
Royal Lakes coach Kadish Fishley noted that both teams are hunting their first point of the competition and she has nothing but three points in mind for this contest.
However, she believes their defensive solidity will also play a crucial part.
“We are looking to play better than we did in our first game and show what we are capable of. They (Mobay) are coming off a loss as well, so we are both seeking the same thing. So we have to maintain our discipline and play our game,” she commented.
“But we need to be a bit more solid defensively, communicate more and protect the mid-field much better. However, I am honestly not thinking of anything but a win and we should be able to achieve that,” Fishley added.
Although she has not seen Real Mobay this season and does not know much about them, she is expecting their usual aggressive style of play.
“The Mobay I knew were very competitive and physical. I am not sure if it’s going to be the same type of team. But we are prepared to go and challenge for three points,” she said.
Real Mobay’ coach Marvin Peterkin said although his players are very inexperienced they are getting better with each game and he thinks they are closer to their first point of the season.
“The last performance was much better than the first. The girls are new at this, they are very young and inexperienced, but we think our chances are as good as the other team. We are getting better each game. Hopefully tomorrow we’ll will get our first win,” he said.
He added that they only need the necessary experience and exposure to mature in the league. “Most of the girls are playing for the first time and to be playing at such a high level is always going to be a difficult task.
“But they are very eager and enthusiastic to learn. We will see how the outcome goes, but I think by the end of the first round we should be more competitive and putting in better performances.”
