National midfielder Ravel Morrison’s days at Major League soccer club DC United seem to be numbered as he is reportedly no longer in the team’s plans for the upcoming season.

Morrison, 30, who signed with the team last July has not been registered on the MLS roster this year making him illegible to play according to American journalist Steven Goff, who reported on Thursday that Morrison remains on the payroll of the club with a guaranteed deal and is eligible to train, however, he will not feature in the 2023 campaign which starts today.

Morrison signed a one-and-a-half-year deal with DC United seven months ago with an option for an additional year. Last year he made 14 appearances for DC United scoring two goals in a campaign where they failed to make the play-offs, finishing at the bottom of the Eastern Conference under head coach and former Manchester United player Wayne Rooney who joined the club in July. Morrison, a Manchester United academy graduate, was one of the signings under Rooney and at the time it was seen as beneficial because of the working relationship that they had when he was at English Championship side Derby County. Rooney in a 2020 Sunday Times column wrote that he thought that Morrison was better than former United player Paul Pogba ‘by a country mile’ during their time in the academy.

But with Morrison on the verge of yet another exit from a professional club, Goff stated that they are now three options available to resolve the situation. “He remains on payroll with guaranteed deal, can continue to train. What’s next? Trade, transfer or mutual termination of contract,” Goff tweeted on Thursday.

Morrison was cryptic with his Instagram stories yesterday posting an account that had the following quotes: “Some people will sell you a dream and deliver a nightmare”, and “They would have kept lying if you never found out, remember that.” Morrison will be searching for his 14th club in his career, a career that has seen much upheaval with no continuity. Morrison has had stints in England, Holland, Mexico and Sweden, but has not been able to last for at least two years with a club.

DC United are scheduled to open their campaign today at 7:30 p.m. against Toronto FC.
