Tennis Jamaica and National Commercial Bank Jamaica Limited (NCB) have decided to extend their partnership for the staging of the Amateur Tennis Series, set to run from March 11-18.
The series which consists of 10 tournaments will be played at the NCB Wellness and Recreational Centre, with amateurs competing at varying levels and divisions.
Tennis Jamaica President, John Azar, said the NCB Amateur Series was one of the highlights of 2022 as it allowed players of all levels and age groups to come out in a competitive atmosphere.
He pointed out also that entries have increased and players are raring to go. “I have no doubt the 2023 series will be even more successful as each of the last set of events were record-setting,” he said.
He also praised NCB for their continued support.
“Even with the best plans and ambitions, we are powerless without the support of our valued sponsors, led by NCB.
“They have been consistent in their support of our developmental programmes and I see it as a belief in the Tennis Jamaica and what we are doing. I cannot thank NCB enough for their invaluable and ongoing support,” he stated.
NCB’s Brand and Sponsorship Manager Marion Carter said they are thrilled to be continuing their partnership with Tennis Jamaica.
“Supporting the development of sports in Jamaica is very important to us as we see more young Jamaicans turning to this field as a viable career and wealth-creation option for them and their families.
“The NCB Amateur Tennis Series is an excellent platform for players to showcase their skills and compete in an environment geared towards their development.” she commented.
Participants will compete in men’s Class 1, Class 2 and Class 3 and ladies A and B categories.
Each tournament will see the introduction of a men’s Class 1A event, which will allow local professionals to showcase their skills in an exhibition round-robin format.
The majority of events will focus on singles competition but there will also be events dedicated solely to doubles competition.
“I cannot stress enough the importance of tournaments in the development of players. Events such as these encourage players to practise even harder to showcase their skills, and it is wonderful to see friendly but fierce competition,” Azar added.
