Perfect Brew pulls off hunt for Alsafra Trophy
PERFECT BREW swooped down on tearaway leader FURTHER AND BEYOND a furlong out before pulling off for a convincing victory, landing yesterday’s Alsafra Trophy in 1:38.0, completing a three-timer for champion jockey Dane Dawkins.
FURTHER AND BEYOND, third in the 2021 Jamaica Derby while taking orders from Anthony Nunes, threw quite a scare off an 11-month lay-up for new connections, tearing away down the backstretch under Ameth Robles.
Hitting the three-pole with an eight-length lead ahead of STOMP THE RHYTHM, FURTHER AND BEYOND appeared beyond recall coming off the home turn.
However, PERFECT BREW rounded rivals to join STOMP THE RHYTHM at the top of the lane and quickened readily to reel in FURTHER AND BEYOND leaving the one-furlong pole.
BACK CLASS
FURTHER AND BEYOND, displaying his back class, stayed in for second from STOMP THE RHYTHM, but well beaten by PERFECT BREW, who franked the form of his two previous races, beaten by last year’s three-year-old stars, BLUE VINYL and ATOMICA, consecutively.
PERFECT BREW rounded off a three-timer for Dawkins, who had won the previous event aboard BIG GUY IN THESKY after opening his tally aboard JAGUAR at five furlongs straight in the fifth.
Dawkins’ three-timer moved him to 35 winners, 11 behind leading rider, Reyan Lewis, who won the fourth astride ABSOLUTE BLUE.
The Valbert Marlowe co-feature at a mile was won by champion trainer Jason DaCosta’s SUNSET SILHOUTTE, who pounced on the battling pair of RAINSVILLE and SONNY T AND CHIPPY inside the final furlong to win at a mile in 1:39.1.
Racing continues with Saturday-Sunday meets at the weekend.
