BUDAPEST, Hungary:

THE QUEST for a sprint double begins for last year’s 100-metre World Athletics Championships silver medallist, Shericka Jackson, today at 5:10 a.m.

While not discounting the field she labels the best core of sprinters today, Jackson is even more eager to show what she is capable of.

Jackson enters her third year running the 100 metres with a season’s best 10.65 seconds, the fastest time in the world this year, done at the National Senior and Junior Championships a month ago.

Since then, she has had a rigorous schedule in Europe, running both the 100 and 200 with little rest in between. That schedule, interestingly, has her feeling she is in the best shape of her life.

“I’m faster and I just want to see what I am capable of,” Jackson said on Wednesday.

That declaration will entice a field that will include the reigning and defending five-time world champion, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, and American Sha’Carri Richardson.

“I think it one of the greatest fields right now and it is good to have so many ladies running fast,” said Jackson.

That field will also include the likes of Natasha Morrison and Sashalee Forbes, who are among the top 20 in the world this year, with their best times coming at the National Championships last month.

Jackson, all season, has been saying the emphasis has been on getting the 100 metres right. That focus led to her first sub-10.7-second clocking.

Having achieved that, Jackson firmly believes the possibilities are endless.

“Once I put together everything that I have been doing in training, then anything is possible.”
