Geolithic slams rivals in Caymanas Park 1959 feature
UNITED STATES-bred three-year-old filly GEOLITHIC turned in a near 16-length romp of yesterday’s Caymanas Park 1959 Trophy race, beating local-breds, non-winners of two races, by a city block at a mile on her third start.
Sent off as the 4-1 choice after finishing third in her two previous outings, last out August 7 when beaten by fellow American UNCAPTURED EMPRESS and NORBLAR at seven furlongs, GEOLITHIC turned the tables on NORBLAR in a commanding gate-to-wire win under leading rider Reyan Lewis, handing trainer Peter-John Parsard his first career winner.
Hustled to tackle BLINKIN LIGHT on the lead, GEOLITHIC took over and quickly opened up a commanding lead to race clear on the far side. Sensing GEOLITHIC had flown the coop, Dane Dawkins sent 5-2 chance NORBLAR in chase a half-mile out but the foreigner was long gone, straightening with an unmolested lead, which grew wider with every stride.
NORBLAR, allowing the foreigner six pounds, stayed on for a distant second-place effort, outclassed, in every sense of the word, by the far-striding filly, who clocked 1:40.2, enjoying every yard of the increased trip, handing Lewis his 74th winner of the season.
Dawkins, who started the weekend on 53 winners, moved to 56 with victory aboard RAINSVILLE at nine furlongs and 25 yards in the third following his two-timer on Saturday’s 10-race card.
Philip Parchment upstaged the top two riders with a three-timer – STICKYDON, TRUE BRAVADO and PRINCE SANJAY – landing the opening event, followed by the sixth and seventh races, respectively, all driving finishes won in his usual bustling style.
Leading trainer Jason DaCosta uncharacteristically failed to land a winner on the nine-race card, a game SHE’S MY FRIEND outfinished by RAINSVILLE in a non-winners-of-four-races clash on the circular nine course.
Anthony Nunes emerged top trainer on the day with two winners, NUCLEAR NOON at five furlongs straight in the second and JUNGLE BOOGIE at seven furlongs under a patient ride from claiming jockey Matthew Bennett.
