#BudaQuest | Ricketts misses triple jump podium for first time in two championships
In a World Athletics triple jump final that was the fiercest it has been in years since the rise of Venezuela’s Yulimar Rojas, twice silver medallist Shanieka Ricketts missed the podium despite a number of season-best leaps.
Rojas, for instance, had to wait until her penultimate jump to pull out a win with 15.08 metres, while Ricketts, who was in the bronze-medal position, was relegated to fourth with her best of 14.93.
Finishing ahead of Ricketts was the Ukraine’s Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk, 15 metres on the button, and Cuba’s Leyanis Pérez Hernández, 14.96.
Jamaica’s other competitor in the final, Kimberly Williams, 14.38, was seventh.
