Blue Vinyl romps to Mark My Word trophy

BLUE VINYL made a mockery of rivals in yesterday’s Mark My Word Trophy, a gate-to-wire romp, clocking 1:54.2 for a ridiculously easy victory at nine furlongs and 25 yards.

Effortlessly making it two wins and a flying short-head loss to impressive American IS THAT A FACT since moving to Al Brown’s barn, conditions allow BLUE VINYL, last year’s St Leger winner, another run among open-allowance horses before graduating to grade one.

Javaniel Patterson, who partnered BLUE VINYL on his 21-length stroll, was denied back-to-back winners after trying to steal home in the previous race aboard 20-1 longshot THE LOVE OF GOD, who was collared close home by 8-5 favourite BELLA BELLA with Raddesh Roman at five and a half furlongs in the fillies-only Titania Trophy for three-year-olds, non-winners of two races.

Roman, who had earlier opened the nine-race card with out-of-class $550,000 claimer, ROHAN KABIR, was joined on two winners for the afternoon by Tevin Foster, who rode energetic races aboard DIGITAL LIGHT and SIR JOHN to close the late double.

Gary Griffiths saddled two winners, three-year-old DIGITAL LIGHT beating non-winners of two races and EXOTIC LIGHT outsprinting maidens at four furlongs straight.

Despite there not being any major upsetter, one lucky punter bagged the Ketch 9, picking up a cool $1.395 million.

The Heroes Weekend triple-header continues this afternoon with a second nine-race card headlined by this year’s 2000 Guineas winner, MOJITO, returning off a two-month break in the Errol ‘Big Sub’ Subratie Memorial at a mile.
