Disappointment for Jamaican sprinter at Pan Am Games
SANTIAGO, Chile (CMC):
THERE WAS no medal for Jamaican sprinters in either final of the 100 metres at the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, last night.
But 7here was silverware for other Caribbean nations with Jasmine Abrams capturing silver among the women and teammate Emanuel Archibald winning bronze for Guyana yesterday.
Abrams, 29, clocked 11.52 seconds to follow home winner, Cuban Yunisleydis García, who was timed at 11.36 seconds.
Trinidadian Michelle-Lee Ahye, a former Commonwealth sprint champion, clinched bronze in a time of 11.53.
Ahye’s teammate, Reyare Thomas, finished sixth in 11.69.
Archibald, meanwhile, crossed the line in 10.31, as José González of the Dominican Republic took gold in 10.30, with Brazil’s Felipe Bardi second in 10.31 as well.
Jamaican Odaine McPherson was one from last in 10.44.
Today, Abrams’ younger sister Aliyah Abrams will line up in the final of the women’s 400 metres final as the only Caribbean athlete in the event.
